Augie March take out the AMP

Keeping the autumn chill at bay, Melbourne’s favourite indie rock band, Augie March ramped things up a notch when they landed in Sydney yesterday to snaffle up the prestigious AMP (Australian Music Prize).

But wait, there’s more (and I aint talking steak knives) the rock outfit also signed a record deal with Jive/Zomba for the North American release of their acclaimed  album Moo You Bloody Choir.

The AMP is judged by a panel of respected industry personnel across media, retail and established artists and the award presented to Augie March last night, recognises the musical excellence and outstanding creativity of their aforementioned album. The band grabbed a $25,000 cash prize for their efforts…

Speaking of Augie March’s acquistion by Jive/Zomba, Barry Weiss, CEO of Zomba Group had the following comment; “We are really excited at Jive Records/Zomba Label Group to be releasing Augie March’s, Moo, You Bloody Choir album in June here in America.  This group possesses a rare combination of real artistry with commercial songwriting and presentation.  Our goal is to nail this and break this band big in the States.”

The band are currently touring Australia on their ‘Cold Acre Tour’ with special guests Joel Plaskett and the Emergency

The band received the award on Wednesday night, not Thursday as this story indicates.
