Beck joins the line-up at VFestival
Sat 3rd Mar, 2007 in Local News
The line up for V Festival just keeps on growing. Latest artists to be announced include Beck and the New York Dolls.
Other acts added to the bill are: New Young Pony Club, The Valentinos, The Ghosts and Nouvelle Vague.
The inclusion of Beck in the festival line-up should please indie music fans. Last here in 2003, the innovative multi platinum-selling artist will be performing exclusively at Sydney’s Centennial Park on Saturday March 31st and the Gold Coast’s Avica Resort on Sunday April 1st at V Festival 2007, presented by Virgin Mobile.
Beck will not be appearing in any other cites – these two shows are your only opportunity to catch one of the truly spectacular and theatrical shows gracing the international touring scene, playing a 75 minute set.
Beck will be bringing to Australia a show brimming with his creative genius – the latest Beck extravaganza comes with puppets, the world’s largest boom box, faux dinner parties, and dudes rapping in grizzly bear costumes. The set features marionettes of his likeness and those of his band mates crafted to a level of detail that can only be described as downright freaky. The miniatures dressed in imitation attire play air guitar and lip synch on a tiny replica stage. Their images are beamed onto the big PuppeTron screen behind the band, complete with clichéd rock-film angles and effects.
Beck’s sextet – a 10-piece if you count the puppeteers – promises to captivate V Festival audiences, with a spectacular visual feast and a set that runs the gamut from acoustic to electric, not to mention performing all the much loved highlights from “Where It’s At,” to “Devils Haircut” to “Loser” and “Novacane”.
Legendary punk rockers new York Dolls, with original band members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain are reuniting to bring NYD to Australia for the first time ever.
Formed in 1971, NYD became one of the most influential bands of their generation, earning a cult following on both sides of the Atlantic. The band’s 1973 debut album and the follow up “Too Much Too Soon” are still widely regarded as two of the most popular cult records in rock & roll history.
Another new addition bringing their exquisite sounds to V Festival are French musical collective Nouvelle Vague.
The brainchild of arrangers March Collin and Olivier Libaux. Nouvelle Vague cover songs from the 80s new wave and punk scenes, and give them a 60s Bossanova style and sound. Their first self-titled album featured stripped back acoustic arrangements with supple rhythms, all achieved by bringing together a parade of chanteuses from all over the world and sexing up everyone from XTC to The Clash and The Undertones.
Returning to Australia after a highly successful club tour last December, New Young Pony Club join the ranks of the fresh-faced new talent brigade on the V Festival bill.
Hailed as the ‘mysterious up and coming London five piece’, rising stars New Young Pony Club have been making their mark on dance floors and venues across the world since they burst onto the scene in 2006. Marrying the sounds and ethic of punk with the energy and speed of classic club dance tracks, their simplistic lyrics and funky beats are like a breath of fresh air, no-where more evident than on their first single “Ice Cream”.
In keeping with the V Festival ethos of bringing Australia’s freshest new talent to the table, Sydney’s hardest working live band The Valentinos and new kids on the block The Ghosts also join the line-up.
