Black Eyed Peas front woman Fergie will host this year’s MTV Australian Music Video Awards (AVMAs). The awards will be held at Acer Arena on April 29 and broadcast by MTV, Network Ten and MTV’s new broadband channel – Overdrive.
A number of celebs have already signed on to appear – Jared Leto and his band 30 Seconds To Mars are slated to perform and Laguna Beach’s Kristin Cavalleri will make an appearance.
This year’s award nominations were dominated by Justin Timberlake - who picked up six noms including Best Male Artist and Sexiest Video. Pink follows with five nominations including Best Female Artist and Best Pop Video for U + Ur Hand.
Stand out local artists Eskimo Joe and Wolfmother will battle it out for Best Group while Adelaide’s Hilltop Hoods are up against some of hip hop’s greats including Eminem and Snoop Dogg in the Best Hip Hop Video category for The Hard Road.
The MTV AVMAs 2007 nominations list includes 15 viewer-voted categories; Spankin New Artist, Sexiest Video, Best Rock Video, Best Pop Video, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Group, Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Dance Video, Best Hook Up (new), Video of the Year, Download of the Year (new) and Viewers Choice Award Australia and New Zealand. MTVs Unique Free Your Mind Award highlighting humanitarian issues yet to be announced and Video Vanguard are yet to be announced .
Voting for the MTV AVMAs starts on Thursday 1st March, and closes on Saturday 28th April.
MTV viewers can cast their vote by logging on to mtv.com.au/avma or by simply sending an SMS with the category name e.g. ROCK to 191MTV following the prompts.
Winners will be announced at the MTV AVMAs on Sunday 29th April 2007
