Garage to V hits Perth thisweek

After the painstaking selection process, just four WA acts remain in this year’s Garage to V contest. The Flairz, The Government, The Vans and The Plastik Scene will fight it out for a spot on the national finals, held in Sydney next month, but must first make it through the WA final.

Early favourites to represent WA in the national final are The Flairz, who have already played a host of large gigs supporting some large names. With the recent addition of a fourth member, the band are looking forward to another CD release later this year and will no doubt want to prove themselves on the east coast.

The Plastik Scene are known to most as the band Katy Steele used to play with. But TPS are a band in their own right, combining electronic sounds with traditional rock elements to come up with a unique end product.

Namechecking bands like Veruca Salt and The Breeders, The Government have forged a reputation for putting on frenetic, blistering live shows. Lead singer Jenna Hardie is already known for her impressive set of lungs and before 2007 is up, she’s no doubt going to be one of the most recognisable frontpersons in the Perth scene.

The Vans round out the top four and they’ve got the word ‘potential’ stamped all over themselves. They pull together the best bits of indie, britpop and stadium rock and turn it into something they can call their own. They’re currently working on their debut EP, which is set for release later this year.

The WA heat will take place on Wednesday February 28 at the Artrage Bakery in Northbridge, and will also feature a guest appearance from The Silents. To get your name on the guest list you’ll need to RSVP with all your details.
