Ivy League sign US band TheWhigs

Über-cool local label Ivy League Records are mighty pleased to announce its latest signing: The Whigs. The Athens, Georgia trio join a flourishing local roster fronted by the the likes of Red Riders, Josh Pyke and Youth Group.
The Whigs were recently heralded by Rolling Stone USA as one of “10 Artists to Watch”, and critical acclaim is snowballing for the group’s mix of definitive teenage anthems and passionate garage rock. Need we say more?
Oh, you want more. Australian audiences will be happy to hear that The Whigs supported our own Silverchair at a recent sold-out concert in New York, and will be playing the media-hogging South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas in March.
Now signed to the prestigious ATO Records in the US (home of My Morning Jacket and Ben Kweller), the threesome previously self-produced and funded their debut album Give ‘Em All A Big Fat Lip, which will hit Australia in April. With such a home-made feel, comparisons to Pavement and The Replacements seem apt.
Make up your own mind at www.myspace.com/thewhigs or wait until Give ‘Em All A Big Fat Lip is released on Ivy League Records on April 21, 2007.
