Breakthrough finalistsannounced

Judges have named the 12 bands that will compete in the final stages of the inaugural Breakthrough band competition this month. The competition runs from February 8-16 and will decide which local act will take the final spot at this year’s West Coast Blues and Roots Festival.

The first heat is at 8pm on Thursday at Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle and features Blues Power Express, Sam Smith, The City Watch and The Layabouts. The action continues on Friday night at Mojo’s, as None the Wiser, The Wilderness, Fall Electric and Zarm battle for a spot in the grand final. The final heat will be on Sunday night upstairs at the Swan Hotel from 6pm, with Craig Sinclair, Bianca Jade, Xave Brown and The Floors all competing.

The grand final will be held at the Fly by Night in Fremantle on February 16, with the competition winner receiving $5000 in sound gear as well as a spot on the WCB&R bill.

As previously reported on FasterLouder, this year’s festival hits the Fremantle Esplanade on March 31 and April 1, with Wolfmother, Gomez, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, John Mayer and Dave Matthews Band among the bands confirmed to perform.
