AMP finalists announced

The short list for the Australian Music Prize (AMP) was announced yesterday – artists with an eye on the $25,000 prize include The Grates and Augie March.
According to organisers, the callibre of entries for this year’s prize was so high they increased the finalist short list from eight to nine.
Without further ado, the finalists for this year’s AMP are:
Augie March “Moo, You Bloody Choir”
Bob Evans “Suburban Songbook”
Gotye “Like Drawing Blood”
Howling Bells “Howling Bells”
Jackie Marshall “Fight n’ Flight”
Lisa Gerrard “The Silver Tree”
Sarah Blasko “What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have”
The Drones “Gala Mill”
The Grates “Gravity Won’t get You High”
Scott B. Murphy, Prize Director of The Amp 2006 says “It was an exceptional circumstance
to see nine artists were valid at the end of judging for the Short List 8. We decided that all – based on the judges’ evaluations – deserved to be a part of the Short List, and we’re pleased that we were able to act appropriately and accommodate them. Congratulations to these 9 worthy artists, we now look forward to the third Stage of judging and ultimately the Winners Event on March 7 at the world class HOME Night Club in Sydney.”
