The nominees have been confirmed for this year’s West Australian Music Industry Awards and it’s the usual suspects dominating proceedings as expected.

Eskimo Joe lead the pack with six nominations, including Most Popular Act, Most Popular Album, Most Popular Single and Most Popular Music Video. Vocalist Kavyn Tempany also scored a nomination for the Best Male Vocalist award.

Snowman must fancy their chances at the awards too, with nominations for Most Popular Act, Most Popular Live Act, Best Rock Act and Most Popular Music Video. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2006 and are celebrating their recent addition to the 2007 Big Day Out lineup around Australia.

Snowman manager Heath Bradby, who also manages The Silents (nominated in the rock category) and Jebediah, is up for this year’s Golden WAMi. Also Nominated are Peter Barr (RTRFM), promoter Paul Sloan and Qstik RecordsScott Adam.

Streetlight, Sugar Army and Mink Mussel Creek represent the class of 2006, with all three bands nominated for Favourite Newcomer and the industry-voted Most Promising New Act.

The most bizarre nomination came as the now-defunct Perthbands.com received a nomination for best music website. The site has been missing in action for a year but somehow managed to win another nomination to follow its 2006 win. Rockus.com.au, Perthsounds.com and wam.asn.au were also nominated. Rockus was also nominated for the media (organisation) award – but they have tough opposition from RTRFM, X-Press and Drum Media.
