Art of Fighting to supportMidlake

The boys from Denton, Texas in the USA, Midlake, are only days away from arriving in Melbourne in support of their first East Coast tour.  Special guests for Midlake’s Corner appearance will be internationally celebrated independent Aussie band Art of Fighting.

In the near decade since three Melbourne high school friends formed a band inspired by such teenage heroes as the Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth, Art Of Fighting have become one of the most respected and admired independent bands in Australia, with a growing international following, a rich back catalogue and an irresistible air of dignity and grace.

It was their debut album that saw the band take on the mantle of maturity. Wires took the nation by storm on its release in 2001 and now stands as one of Australian music’s most accomplished and affecting debuts.

Ollie Browne’s song writing had reached a level of stately, melancholic mastery – and his singing a kind of tragic purity – that could leave few listeners unmoved. Respect must also be paid to Peggy Frew’s contribution I Don’t Keep A Record, a magical revelation of whispered vocals and fragile melody. And it is with these beautifully delicate sounds that they are sharing the stage with Midlake at the US band’s Melbourne show at The Corner Hotel.

Midlake not only embodies idealism in the hearts of many already, but with the introduction of their current album, The Trials of Van Occupanther, they’re making it a reality.

The Trials of Van Occupanther was released in June 2006 and critics worldwide have touted them as the 2006 “Band to Watch”. Midlake will indeed further the rapidly growing momentum by delivering live shows that are sure to merit such high expectations.

Midlake play The Corner on Sunday December 10, supported by Art of Fighting and Laura Jean.
