V Festival launches in Sydney- first line-up announced

Richard Branson’s V Festival launched in Sydney last night – and the big news of the evening was the announcement of the Pixies headlining at the festival.

Branson’s festival is one of the largest and most popular in the UK, attracting 130,000 music fans each year, and has played host to a line-up of world class international artists, supported by an extensive and eclectic mix of new talent.

After ruling the roost in the UK for 10 years, the V Festival expanded its empire this year, with inuagural festivals in Canada and the US in September. V Fest will roll out its troops in Australia in March 2007 – which is only good news for festival lovers and music fans.

V Festival plans to deliver the Australian gig goer a new and unique experience, More creature comforts; plenty of space; great facilities; food other than Pluto pups, champagne tents alongside beer lines – and all this taking place in exceptional surroundings..

The line-up for the very first Australian bill serves up a taste of some of the world’s best international acts alongside fresh newcomers.

The confirmed line-up so far:

I think the person above me said everything that needs to be said. I definitely can't afford to travel to Sydney for this, and with such a promising line-up, how can they justify no Melbourne show? This doesn't seem right at all...

I understand that it would be frustrating to see international acts coming over here and not playing your city... but seriously Melbourne has nothing to complain about. Brisbane and Perth wouldn't be able to count the number of great international act

When they announcing the next round? I'm hanging out here. Daft Punk? Daft Punk? PS. I'm a Melbournite going up to Sydney for it. I don't care about it skipping Melbourne. Good excuse to get away for a weekend.
