Falls Fest supporting emergingbands
Fri 27th Oct, 2006 in Local News
Arts Tasmania and Falls Fest joined forces this month in an effort to locate the best bands Tasmania has to offer to include them in the line-up for the Marion Bay leg of the Fest.
A mini music festival – Amplifier – was held and 10 Tassie bands were shortlisted to perform. After a series of gigs packed to the rafters with tassie music lovers the top four bands floated to the top.
The cream of the crop have been selected to perform.
Without further ado, let us introduce the winning bands –
The Embers
With eclectic instrumentation and melodies that could best be described as roots fusion, incorporating a melting pot of Celtic melodies, Spanish grooves, reggae dubs, drum ‘n’ bass, folk and tribal rhythms, The Embers are fast making a name for themselves in the local scene.
They just won the 2006 National Campus Band Competition, they’ll be primed to unleash their original and infectious energy at The Falls Festival in Marion Bay.
Modus
launceston local, Modus, are one solid alternative rock band that’s been brewing and building a strong following over the past couple of years. Armed with an explosive and passionate sound that is matched by their live performance, Modus stands and delivers. Their talent and ambition was recently acknowledged when they were awarded the Best Up and Coming Tasmanian Act (North) in the 2006 Tasmanian Amplified Awards.
Unleash the Nugget
Formed in Hobart in 2002, Unleash the Nugget have honed and developed its own blend of musicianship and lyrical mastery to deliver high energy, high precision shows with attitude. Grounded in hip hop / rap and fusing funk, jazz, rock, reggae and Latin influences, they will unleash the flow and the fool within to get you truly grooving. They won the 2005 Tasmanian National Campus Band competition and were crowned Best Original Live Act in the 2006 Tasmanian Amplified Awards.
The Scientists of Modern Music
This young Tassie duo cook up a funky electronic brew that’s part Daft Punk, a nip of Devo, a splash of Regurgitator and a solid chunk of gold that is all their own. With an appreciation of electronic rock music and a trunk load of antique synthesizers and drum machines as well as cutting edge keyboards and vocoders, this dynamic duo light a fire underneath concepts of cliché and retro by digging diamonds of clean and powerful electronica and presenting it in the rough.
