Rocking three piece, The New Vague took out the National Campus Bands Competition Flinders University final Wednesday night with a set that impressed the judges and ample crowd that packed into Shenanigans Irish Pub.
In what was an extremely close and evenly fought final, the band just edged out runners-up Sids Gate (who also qualified for the SA final), The Ides and Is This Art? to claim the narrowest of victories.
Sam Trowse (pictured left), singer and guitarist with The New Vague was stoked with the victory.
“We put a lot of hard work into this,” he said. “It’s great to be heading on into the final.”
Bass player Sam Riley (pictured right) was equally happy, describing the victory as being “better than sex”.
Meanwhile UniSA bands Whithin Reason and Quiet Child each won through competitive seven band Semi-finals held at The Governor Hindmarsh during the week.
The four bands will now play at the SA final at The Governor Hindmarsh on Thursday September 14, where they will fight it out with Blow Up Betty (Adelaide Uni), Last Minute-ville (Adelaide Uni), Avedis (TAFE) and Quest (TAFE) to see who will represent SA in the National Final to be held in Sydney later this year. The Australia wide winner will receive $8,000 worth of band equipment from Jim Beam, plus 3 days studio time and 3,000 mastered and duplicated CD’s from Sony BMG Music.
