FBi and community radio'sgreat leap forward
Tue 29th Aug, 2006 in Local News
FBi turned three this week and the celebrations keep on coming with the news that the station has picked up a massive 4% of the marketshare
The latest figures from McNair show the number of people listening to community-run stations has jumped to more than seven and a half million listeners each month – an increase of 7% since 2004.
Says FBi GM, Stuart Buchanan: “Just under half (47%) of all Australians over 15 are tuning in to Australian music every week. At FBi, we always believed that promoting local and Australian music could be the basis of a mass audience station – the proof is now here.”
In addition to the McNair results, the fifth AC Nielsen Radio Survey of 2006 shows total listener figures for commercial and public stations in Sydney add up to only 85.9%. That leaves 14.1% of listeners unaccounted for. When FBi launched in 2003 this figure was only 10.3%; ‘Other FM’ has therefore soared nearly 4 percentage points since the launch of FBi, equivalent to JJJ’s latest Sydney ratings (4.1%).
Sounds like there are several reasons to pop open the champagne at FBi this week!
