Festival of the Sun
Mon 7th Aug, 2006 in Local News
Looking for a cruisy way to welcome in the summer? Look no further than the Festival of the Sun. Taking place at Port Macquarie on December 15 & 16, Festival of the Sun offers a stellar lineup of local performers including Augie March, Faker and The Beautiful Girls.
The inaugural festival took place last year, and proved such a success, that organisers immediately put plans underway for a second inning and have already secured a top lineup of acts for the first round announcement.
Bands slated to play at Festival of the Sun thus far include: Mia Dyson, Blue King Brown, The Fumes, Kid Confucius, The Gin Club, Dirty Lucy, Gabriel’s Day, Blues Bombers, Waiter, 4pm Project, Lady Bird and Shane Fritsch with more to be announced.
Festival Director, Simon Luke offered the following comment on the event: “The intimate atmosphere and social spirit is felt by all at Festival of the Sun, festival goers, organisors and artists alike. The vibe is so amazing and relaxed that the bands just get out amongst the crowd to enjoy their favourite performers along with everybody else.”
The festival will take place on Town Beach, with camping available onsite. The festival is also BYO (imagine how much dosh you are going to save since you won’t be forking out $7 a drink).
Besides the great line up of bands, another highlight of the weekend is the airing of the SunScreen video clip finalists. SunScreen is a national competition uncovering Australia’s most innovative music video clip makers, with heats running from August to November 2006. The finalist’s clips will be airing on an outdoor cinema screen between the live acts, with the winner announced on the Saturday night.
Luke has also promised that 2006 will see bigger and better market stalls offering an eclectic mix of exotic food and local arts and crafts. Organisors are determined to keep the crowd cooled down by setting up another festival slip and slide (so much fun) and encourage anyone who is up for another game of fotsun cricket.
