Since making its debut way back in 1968 as a humble little celebration in honour of the unveiling of the University of Canberra’s foundation stone, Stonefest has become an institution in the national music scene.
Stonefest is now recognised as one of the longest running music festivals in Australian history, providing generations of Canberrans with a taste of the wealth of music on offer around the country.
This year Stonefest will embrace the theme In Your Own Backyard, providing a look back into the annals of Stonefest music history.
Don’t just take our word for it – here’s a few words culled from the Stonefest presser: ”those who witnessed the T.I.S.M performance at Stonefest in 2002 will no doubt testify as to why the festival has its own unique place on the Australian music industry landscape, three decades of event history reveal stories that encapsulate urban myth status. Picture if you will a four ton elephant mysteriously appearing on the festival grounds in the mid 1970’s much to the dismay of event organisers. Now add to this the iconic dog on the tucker box all the way from Gundagai mysteriously turning up for a one-off performance in 1981, and you have the gist of what’s install with our thirty year retrospective.”
Acts confirmed to appear on the two day festival bill thus far include:
The Avalanches + Regurgitator + Kid 606 [USA] + The Mark Of Cain + Sarah Blasko + Urge Overkill [USA] + The Herd + Cog + Drop The Lime [USA] + Hancock Basement + Infusion + Kid Kenobi and MC Shureshock + Los Capitanes + Bass Kleph [live].
With more artists to be announced.
