New Brisbane bridge to benamed after Grant McLennan?
Wed 5th Jul, 2006 in Local News
Brisbane’s new bridge, which runs from Dutton Park to the University Of Queensland St Lucia campus will open in February next year. The name of the bridge has not yet been decided, and a team of music industry celebrities have put their support behind a proposal to name the bridge “The Go-Betweens Bridge”.
All five members of Powderfinger, songwriter Paul Kelly, Midnight Oil frontman turned politician Peter Garret and author Nick Earls are among the luminaries who have backed the proposed name for the bridge.
The Go-Betweens were one of Brisbane’s most successful and popular bands, and co-founders Grant McLennan and Robert Forster met at University Of Queensland. The bridge will also be a tribute to McLennan, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack, aged 48, in May this year.
Brisbane City Council is still considering all naming proposals.
