Bernard Fanning Tops TripleJ's Hottest 100 Poll

Triple J’s Hottest 100 list was broadcasted live at Sydney’s Big Day Out with Bernard Fanning’s first single, Wish You Well, off his solo album, Tea & Sympathy coming in at number one. Sydney’s Wolfmother scored two in the Top 10 (Mind’s Eye and Joker & The Thief) and six other tracks off their debut self-titled album featuring throughout the list.

As a further indication the Australian music scene is burgeoning with talent, The 2005 Hottest 100 list for broadcaster Triple J features over 50% of local artists with the broadcaster receiving over 600,000 votes for the annual poll – a 20% increase over last year’s.

Music Director, Richard Kingsmill commented, “This was another exciting year musically for Triple J. There is a wave of excitement for a lot of the new bands coming through, and much of that excitement surrounds the up and coming Australian bands.”

Other Australian artists such as Karnivool, Josh Pyke, Faker, Beautiful Girls, Cog, Sarah Blasko, Clare Bowditch & The Feeding Set and Grinspoon also featured in the list. Check out the complete list here.

I did vote and was bloody disapointed to see the #1 song come up whilst at BDO. The Australian music scene has so much more to offer. I suppose mainstream radio friendly music wins out once again.

Bernard deserves all the praise he gets. Hes an awesome singer/songwriter and hey if he can manage to get 2 of his albums songs in the top 20 in the 100 then obviously hes doing something right. There was a fair bit of Australasian influence in the hottes
