The award recognises the abundance of local talent with the main criteria being “for an album of outstanding achievement as an Australian musical work of art – for its creativity, innovation, musicianship and contribution to Australian music.”

This year fifteen nominations were announced, they are: (in alphabetical order):

Bernard Fanning – Tea & Sympathy
Clare Bowditch & The Feeding Set – What Was Left
Cog – The New Normal

Gyroscope – Are You Involved?
The Herd – The Sun Never Sets
Lior – Autumn Flow
The Panics – Sleeps Like A Curse
Pivot – Make Me Love You
Wolfmother – Wolfmother

These nominations were picked by a panel consisting of Triple J Music Director, Richard Kingsmill, Robbie Buck and other station presenters, producers and live engineers.

Richard Kingsmill recently commented, “The high quality of Australian music in 2005 made the selection process of nominees difficult. This makes picking the final winner even tougher as there are so many standouts. We couldn’t have picked a better year to start the J Award.”

Tomorrow the winner of the inaugural J Award will be announced from a live broadcast directly from Sydney’s Annandale Hotel. Stay tuned to FasterLouder for further updates on the winner of the J Award along with photos from the event.
