Swervedriver touring theirdebut album 'Raise' in full

English shoegazers Swervedriver will return to Australia in September to play their classic 1991 debut Raise in its entirety, plus a set of “old and new highlights”.

Swervedriver supported Powderfinger on their nationwide Internationalist tour in 1998, but after a final show in West Australia in December that year they went on a hiatus that lasted nearly a decade. In 2008 the band reformed for a world tour, which included a performance at Coachella and the reissuing of their first three albums. They returned to Australia in 2011 on that reunion tour and will play dates in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth on this Raise tour.

Raise was released through Alan McGee’s Creation Records in a banner year for the label, which also saw the release of Primal Scream’s Screamadelica, Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque, and My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless. Not a bad collection, huh?

The album only contained six new songs – ‘Son of Mustang Ford’, ‘Rave Down’ and ‘Sandblasted’ had all appeared on earlier releases – but the record was heralded by many critics as a masterpiece. The New York Times described Raise as a record of “triumphal riffs and shimmering reverberations, kicked along by a rhythm section that gave uptempo songs a reckless momentum and paced slow drones with inexorable heartbeats.” In 2008 the “remastered and expanded” edition of the album added four bonus tracks – ‘Hands’, ‘Andalucia’, ‘Kill the Superheroes’ and ‘Over’ – to the tracklist.

Swervedriver Raise tour:

Thursday, September 26 – The Zoo, Brisbane
Friday, September 27 – Metro Theatre, Sydney
Saturday, September 28 – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Wednesday, October 2 – The Gov, Adelaide
Thursday, October 3 – Rosemount, Perth

This looks good, will attend.
I wish Curve or Slowdive would reform and tour as well.
