UPDATE 25/2, 10AM: More footage from the Bring Me The Horizon flare incident at yesterday’s Soundwave in Sydney has emerged. Here’s how the incident was described by the user who posted the clip on YouTube: “This is the second flare that was lit up in the BMTH crowd which was thrown on the top of the stage. The first one was thrown around a bit before hitting someone burning them pretty badly and starting a fire in the pit.” Watch below.
Meanwhile, FL’s Soundwave reviewer Rhett Davis has sent us an eye witness account of a similar incident during Metallica: “It was shot by a guy atop someone’s shoulder near the front of the pit. Security immediately started hitting it with a hose. No one was pulled out after the flare with an injury from what I could see.” Full report to come.
UPDATE 25/2, 9AM: ABC News is reporting that two more people were treated for burns following the lit flare during Bring Me The Horizon. Footage of the incident has also emerged. Watch below. About 900 people were treated at Soundwave for minor injuries, with 13 people taken to hospital.
ORIGINAL STORY: Soundwave Sydney has been marred by an incident involving a flare at Olympic Park last night. A young woman was rushed to hospital after she was burnt by plastic from a magnesium flare lit during Bring Me The Horizon’s performance on Stage 3 between 7.30pm and 8pm. According to reports in The Australian the woman has undergone emergency treatment after sustaining burns to her forearm. There have also been various social media reports of a similar incident during Metallica’s closing set on the mainstage (see photo above), however, no injuries have been reported.
Promoter AJ Maddah has described the alleged perpetrator as a “piece of shit” on Twitter. “Tonight you seriously burned and disfigured a young girl. I hope you fucking get yours,” he posted. “Massive awful burn on her forearm. I am devastated for her.”
He is now asking punters to assist in finding the person who lit the flare. “If you see anyone with a lit flare please take their photo and tweet to me so I can hand to police.”
If anyone can correctly identify this son of a bitch I will shower you with so much tickets, backstage and cash you wont know what to do.

Earlier Garbage were forced to cancel their performance in Sydney after flooding held up a truck carrying their gear between Sydney and Brisbane. “So sad we can’t play,” they tweeted to fans.
Soundwave began its lap of the country with an incident-free event at the RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane on Saturday (February 23). Full report here. It continues this Friday (March 1) at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse before winding up in Adelaide and Perth. All dates are sold out.
