The Kooks GTM sideshows

English backpackers seem to make an annual migration to Australia and The Kooks are no different. The crew from East Sussex will make another trip to the colonies to play for fans on the Groovin the Moo tour and a handful of sideshows.

The sideshows will see the band adding shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth to their schedule in addition to the GTM festival dates in Maitland, Canberra, Bendigo, Townsville and Bunbury. The Kooks are one of nine international acts on the GTL lineup for 2013 alongside The Bronx, Tegan and Sara, they Might Be Giants and Frightened Rabbit. The large local contingent on the festival tour includes Flume, Alpine, Regurgitator, The Temper Trap and Tame Impala.

The Kooks’ last trip to Australia saw them play just one show, stopping in on Splendour in the Grass for a Big Top set on the final day of the festival before the Smashing Pumpkins ended the show. The set was marred by security issues with the bands forced to stop playing as punters ventured dangerously high on the scaffolding, but the last pair of songs – ‘I Wanna Make You Happy’ and ‘Naïve’ – revived the festival mood with an enthusiastic sing-along from the girls who had climbed (safely) onto their boyfriends shoulders.

Prior to that Splendour visit, The Kooks were in Australia to celebrate the beginning of 2012 at the Falls festival where they had also welcomed the start of 2009. The Kooks debued in Australia in August 2008 when they were touring their second record Konk. Their third and most recent album, _ Junk of the Heart_, was released towards the end of 2011.
