First act confirmed forSplendour in the Grass 2013

Splendour in the Grass 2013 may be well over six months away, but is appears that we can already lock in at least one act for the festival lineup – The Polyphonic Spree.

In a Twitter exchange with an Australian fan, Tim DeLaughter – the leader of the Polyphonic Spree community/choir/cult – has revealed that the group will be in Australia for Splendour later this year. He has also confirmed that the tour will include sideshows “for sure”.

If DeLaughter’s tweets are correct, it will be the second visit to Splendour for the
Polyphonic Spree following their headlining set on the GW McLennan stage on the opening day of the festival in 2008. FL’s review of the festival described their set as “the most awe-inspiring moment of the day … an incredible experience to behold”

It has been almost five years since the release of the last Polyphonic Spree album, _ The Fragile Army_, but thanks to a successful campaign on Kickstarter, the band plans to release a live album and concert documentary in February, and a new full length studio album in May.

While it appears that we can lock in the Polyphonic Spree on the Splendour schedule it will be several months before the full lineup is revealed. According to a Facebook post by Splendour in late December, the festival promoters “still need to toss coins, spin bottles, burn effigies, send coded notes, play pin the tail on the Gorgons and call peeps on the Bat phone for at least another 3 months” before announcing the lineup for 2013. The lineup for last year’s festival was announced on April 19.

While there are sure to be plenty of rumours in the coming months, so far the only other act on the Splendour 2013 list is OutKast rapper Big Boi, who announced last month that he’ll be touring Australia in July.

These guys were pretty close to the highlight of Splendour 2008 (right up there with Sigur Ros).

I have never listened to one of their albums at home etc. but these guys are an unmissable live band. Seriously one of the most entertaining acts you can see.

And you were right! Everybody wins!

Their albums are a bit patchy for me. Without that live impact, the music gets a bit repetitive, and seriously, how many songs about the sun can one band have?

When they cover Lithium by Nirvana live though, everybody wins.

Exactly. Can't wait to see what cover they've added to their bag for Splendour...

As long as Arcade Fire do sideshows, I want them to be at Splendour. I imagine them coming later, though. If they come at all, that is.
