Time to begin the Splendourrumours: Big Boi touring inJuly 2013

OutKast member Big Boi has announced that he’ll be returning to Australia for a tour in July next year, prompting speculation that we could see him on the lineup for Splendour in the Grass 2013. Although that could just be “vicious lies and dangerous rumor”.

The rapper has revealed the tour plans on Twitter in an exchange with Theophilus London, who supported his last Australian tour. That tour in August last year was reviewed by FL as “a masterclass of hip-hop swagger”.

While it does seem a little early to begin speculating about the Splendour lineup, Big Boi would be a solid addition to the bill – especially if he was joined by some of the collaborators on his new album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. Big Boi is joined by several Splendour friendly acts including Wavves, Little Dragon, and indie duo Phantogram, with the album described by Pitchfork as “a genre-busting statement of artistic restlessness”.

Vicious Lies is Big Boi’s second “solo” album following 2010’s Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty and six albums with Andre 3000 as part of OutKast including Speakerboxxx, which was recently selected as one of the most underrated albums of all time by FL.

I don't think it's that unfeasible.

I'm thinking that no Laneway sideshows means that Japandroids are probably locked in for Splendour.

I hope this is true, so I can see them at least 2 times in 2013.

It is a bit early for speculation about the bigger acts, but I do remember Blur saying they were planning on touring mid-next year, so possibly Splendour?
Also, if by some miracle Daft Punk headline Coachella/Glasto, they could possibly do a stopover here for Splendour, do Summer Sonic (or whatever the festival is in Japan around the same time), then come back for massive headline shows November/December.

I hope Big Boi does get announced and we get an essay from Rustyinbondi about the rise in festival crime rates. I can't wait!

Not a chance of DP playing Splendour. My money is on Future bringing them out for stand alone shows late 2013-early 2014, if they are touring at all that is..

I do remember Future saying something about having massive shows lined up for their 20th anniversary next year, so that could be a possibility.

Remember when BDO had a massive act for their 20th anniversary?

I reckon the 3 headliners will be Arctic Monkeys, QOTSA and Mumfords...

I guess that would sell well, but wouldn't it be a bit underwhelming to have two headliners who were here less than two years prior?

Yeah it might be I guess, but it would appeal to a lot of people still. I would say that it would be Mumford's only Australian show after their big tour with Secret Sounds this year. And Arctics and QOTSA will have a new albums out.
Blur's a decent chance too

Maybe not speldour but didn't The xx say they were going to be heading back here in 2013?

Maybe bands from Laneway who are doing festival-exclusive shows? Like Alt-J and Japandroids. Also acts from BDO who are just doing sideshows in Sydney; Foals, Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
