My Disco 10th anniversary show
Tue 18th Dec, 2012 in Local News
Way back in 2003 Melbourne trio My Disco put on two, low-key all ages shows to launch their debut “demo cassette”. Ten years on and the band have released three albums, performed in close to 30 countries – including a couple of very memorable tours through Russia – and most recently supported their longtime heroes, Shellac.
To celebrate all these achievements and lasting a decade longer than many of their nu-rock contemporaries, My Disco are throwing a party on Friday, February 8 at The Corner Hotel. Joining Ben, Liam and Rohan for a night of noise and smoke machines is New War, Standish / Carlyon, Max Crumbs, Absolute Boys, Brain Children and a very special guest (to be announced soon).
As My Disco are currently working on album number four – the followup to 2010’s Little Joy – this will be one of the band’s only shows for 2013, and the first chance to hear a bit of their new material.
FL caught the trio at one of their rare hometown shows in April: “A flailing headstock here, a whirling drumstick there, Liam Andrews’ bespectacled figure barking into the microphone; all were captured as translucent silhouettes for a brief moment by the strobe, then just as quickly lost to the miasma.”
