FL Readers Poll 2012 revealed
Mon 17th Dec, 2012 in Local News
Tame Impala ’s Lonerism has continued its domination of end-of-year lists, topping FL ’s inaugural Readers Poll for 2012.
For the first time ever, FL asked our readers to select their favourite albums of 2012 – and Lonerism won by a landslide, capturing 23.7 percent of the vote ahead of Jack White (12 percent), Mercury Prize winners Alt-J (9.6 percent) and Frank Ocean (8.7 percent).
In taking out top honours, Tame Impala have now done the double for 2012, topping both our Readers Poll and our critics’ list of the 50 best albums of 2012. Lonerism has also won this year’s J Award, and topped polls by NME and Filter magazines.
In addition to Tame Impala, 21 other records made both lists including the aforementioned trio of Alt-J, Jack White and Frank Ocean, as well as Japandroids, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, Grizzly Bear, Cat Power and Django Django. However, despite placing within the top 10 of our critics’ best albums of the year, there was no room in the Readers Poll top 50 for Dirty Projectors, David Byrne & St Vincent, Father John Misty and The Dirty Three. Conversely, Deftones came in at #5 in our Readers Poll, despite failing to rate a mention in our critics’ list.
The US had the highest representation of artists on the list with 20, ahead of Australia (16), the UK (six), Canada (four) and Iceland (two). Meanwhile, 14 of the albums selected were debut releases (15 if you include Jack White’s first solo outing Blunderbuss).
