Tomahawk sidewaves announced
Sun 16th Dec, 2012 in Local News
Tomahawk are the latest band to announce that they’ll be playing sideshows while they’re in the country for the Soundwave festival. They’ll be playing just two sidewave shows in February – one in Sydney and one in Melbourne.
The current Tomahawk lineup features an all-star cast – Mike Patton of Faith No More, Fantômas, Mr. Bungle and Mondo Cane, Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard, John Stanier of Battles, The Mark of Cain and Helmet and their newest member Trevor Dunn, also of Fantômas and Mr. Bungle. Patton was only recently in the country to play with Mondo Cane at the Harvest festival. FL spoke to him at the time and he described the forthcoming Tomahawk album, Oddfellows, like this:
“It’s maybe a little bit more melodic than other ones we’ve done. In some ways more intricate and in some ways, way more straightforward. Definitely compared to our last record it’s a more linear song-based record; these are songs and it’s a rock record. Personally speaking I’m singing a lot more, there is a lot less electronic and lot more harmony.”
Oddfellows will be released in January of next year. It’s the band’s first studio album since Anonymous in 2007, although they did release the vinyl box set Eponymous To Anonymous for Record Store Day earlier in 2012.
Tomahawk join other Soundwave acts Garbage, Blink-182, Paramore, Linkin Park and Stone Sour, Bring Me the Horizon and Pierce the Veil, and also Sum 41 and Billy Talent in playing sidewave shows.
Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday, December 21.
