Garbage sidewaves announced

Reunited ’90s grunge-pop band Garbage have announced they’ll be playing two sidewave shows while they’re in the country for the sold-out Soundwave festival, one in Sydney and one Melbourne.

Earlier in the year the band’s frontwoman Shirley Manson mentioned that they had plans to visit Australia when interviewed in Melbourne’s MX, saying “Our career started in Australia, and conversations are already happening. So fuck yeah, we’re coming.” They were announced as part of the Soundwave lineup several months later, and these two shows are likely to be the only other chance we’ll have to see them for a while.

Garbage were last in Australia in 2005 on their Bleed Like Me world tour, a tour that was cut short by the band going on an indefinite hiatus. Though they began working together again in late 2010, it wasn’t until this year that they released their first new album Not Your Kind of People. In our review, we said that it “reminds us that they own the synthesised wall of sound”.

Sidewave dates have also been announced for Blink-182, Paramore, Linkin Park and Stone Sour, Bring Me the Horizon and Pierce the Veil, and also Sum 41 and Billy Talent.

Garbage will be supported at both of these shows by The Dear Hunter, a US band fronted by Casey Crescenzo of The Receiving End of Sirens, who are responsible for a nine-EP series called The Colour Spectrum as well as a six-album conceptual saga that’s currently halfway to being finished.

Tickets go on sale December 13 at 9am.

Garbage sidewaves:

Monday, February 25 – Metro Theatre, Sydney (licensed, all ages)
Wednesday, February 27 – Forum Theatre, Melbourne (18+)
