Deftones, letlive tourAustralia in May 2013

Deftones will return to Australia in May 2013 for headline shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Fremantle with a little extra space on the tour schedule just in case additional shows are needed.

The tour is the first chance Australian fans have had to see the band since they toured with the Big Day Out festival in 2011, promoting their sixth LP Diamond Eyes. Since then the So-Cal rockers have dropped a new album Koi No Yokan and a covers record that saw them take on songs by The Cars, The Cardigans, Sade and Duran Duran.

Frontman Chino Moreno says that Koi No Yokan is a very dynamic album, not super fast or slow. “Some of my favorite things about Deftones are the dynamics,” he told Billboard. “Yes, we’re a heavy band, but we’re not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There’s a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there’s also this very soothing element where there’s a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time.”

The support duties on the tour will be filled by Letlive, who impressed fans with their frantic hardcore when they visited Australia for Soundwave 2012. FL’s review of their set at a sideshow with Enter Shikari in Melbourne earlier this year reported that Letlive exploded onto the stage and “threw themselves into their set with blinding energy. They seemed determined to make sure every square centimetre of stage was fully utilised, filling the space with convulsive guitar thrusts, banging heads and a lot of sweat.”

Deftones tour dates:

Tuesday, May 14 – The Tivoli, Brisbane
Wednesday, May 15 – UNSW Roundhouse, Sydney
Friday, May 17 – The Palace, Melbourne
Sunday, May 19 – HQ, Adelaide
Tuesday, May 21 – Metro, Fremantle

Tickets On Sale Thursday, December 13

I saw both of them recently but both bands were amazing so I'll probably go depending on prices.

The Palace. Tickets are on sale now so don’t fuck around. There won’t be another chance.

No letlive for Brissie:

Brisbane, Australia: we must sincerely apologize. Due to unavoidable travel issues, we will not be able to perform tonight for you. We have attempted, tirelessly, to amend the unforeseeable circumstances within the days prior, but, as bad luck would have it, it is ultimately out of our hands. We do hope to visit you once again as soon as humanly possible.
