Big Day Out announces 2013 settimes and more bands

The Big Day Out has released its 2013 timetables, added a handful of local artists to the lineup in each city and announced the return of The Red Stage and The Lillypad.

Although Ken West told FL that there would be a few less Aussie acts at next year’s event, the festival has announced a stack of locals, including Royal Headache, Something With Numbers and Deep Sea Arcade in Sydney; I Heart Hiroshima and Evil Eddie in the Gold Coast; The Beards and Lady Stranglove in Adelaide; The Smith Street Band and Kingswood in Melbourne and Sons of Rico and Sugar Army in Perth.

As well as the local additions BDO have confirmed the return of The Lillypad. Headed up by the irrepressible Duckpond and his “ambient team” Lillypad 2013 will feature Breakfast of Morons, Bogan Karaoke, the Xtreme Food Olympics and no doubt some guy waring a gumby suit trying to eat bubbles.

The set times and maps for each city have also been revealed and as expected The Red Hot Chili Peppers will headline the Blue stage, The Killers will headline the Orange stage, and once all the mainstage action is over Animal Collective will see things out on the Green stage, Sleigh Bells on The Essential and The Bloody Beetroots will premiere their new live show in the Boiler Room.

The obvious Foals and The Killers clash is painful. Not enjoying the Vampire Weekend and Gambino one either. Besides that I'm reasonably happy.

Timetable for Sydney is great.

Timetable for Gold Coast is super shite. Perfectly clashed so half the internationals I planned to see play at the same time as the other half and there were only 6 internationals I was keen for. So yup. Super frustrating Mr West!

The Vans stage is indoors. The sound there was pretty crappy when SW had a stage there. I hope they have their shit together.

Foals / Killers. Damn.
VW / Alamaba Shakes. Damn.

RHCP / AC - at least this one's easy.

But seriously, why do Sydney timetable so well and the rest so shite.

Well the only band I am really missing out on that I really care about is Alabama Shakes. Off! and Jeff the Brotherhood I could live without but yer, push animal collective, foals and alabama shakes later please. Surely that is possible! Then I also have an option after 10pm that isn't a boiler room i wont be able to get inside of anyway

Shit timetable is shit.

YYYs vs Alabama Shakes
Killers vs Foals

Although, I am looking forward to sinking a few tinnies in the blistering heat listening to Gary Clark Jr.

Foals/RHCP
Alabama Shakes/The Killers
Gary Clark Jr/Grinspoon

You don't have to stay with your friends for the entire festival.

I don't like going to gigs by myself because I'm a sheep. Also, I live in Newcastle so I'd hate to have to drive back from Sydney by myself when I'm tired.

Well, you're fucked to begin with. They don't let animals into shows.

Going to be the blast to end all asses.

Some painful clashes there but looking like a great day. Still deciding what I'll do though.

Some annoying clashes but it was to be expected. Mainly the Vampire Weekend/Childish Gambino and Killers/Foals as previously mentioned. Others I may just resolve by heading to some sideshows.

Also for anyone going to the Melbourne BDO I recommend seeing Kingswood and Jackson Firebird if you've got free time when their sets are on.

Didn't Ken say that bands would be getting full set times, rather than just 45-60 minute sets?

And Animal Collective were supposed to get 1 1/2 hours.

Alrighty so my day is looking like:

Toucan
Fishing
Me (Or Deep Sea Arcade)
Delta Spirit
Gary Clark Jr
Band Of Horses
Vampire Weekend
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Killers
Foals
(End of) RHCP
Animal Collective

Lots of clashes in the day but I prioritised bands I haven't seen before (so sadly no Gambino or Shakes this time round)

Updated Perth timetable: It still starts at the same time but ends early? Gambino now clashes with Vampire Weekend and YYY's.
