More international acts addedto Bluesfest 2013

The latest round of additions to the Bluefest lineup includes Counting Crows; hillbilly siblings Kitty Daisy and Lewis; 2009 inductee into the Blues Hall of Fame Taj Mahal; cult hero Shuggie Otis; recent Splendour in the Grass visitor Ben Howard; and the “supergroup” featuring Cyril Neville from The Meters and Neville Brothers and Gregg Allman’s son Devon – Royal Southern Brotherhood.

Ukulele shredder Jake Shimabukuro and Americana troupe The Lumineers – who had both already announced Bluesfest sideshows – have also been officially added to the lineup. Previously announced headliner Ben Harper is now also scheduled to perform a solo show on Good Friday in addition to a full band set on Thursday night.

The new acts join the massive festival lineup that already includes Robert Plant, Paul Simon, Iggy and The Stooges, Wilco, Rodriguez, Madness, Rufus Wainwright, The Blind Boys Of Alabama, Mavis Staples, Allen Toussaint, Wanda Jackson, Fred Wesley, Michael Kiwanuka, Bettye Lavette and Dropkick Murphys.

Last week the festival also announced a batch of local additions to the lineup. Touted as “the crème de la crème of Australian music” by festival boss Peter Noble, the local additions to the lineup were headed by The Cat Empire, who return for their seventh Bluesfest performance. Fat Freddys Drop, Xavier Rudd, The Bamboos, King Cannons, Saskwatch, Beasts Of Bourbon, and The Break (featuring members of Midnight Oil, Violent Femmes, and Hunters and Collectors ) also joined the lineup.

And just because this all isn’t quite enough for Bluesfest there’ll be another lineup announcement before Christmas.

Latest Bluesfest 2013 lineup additions:

Counting Crows
Ben Harper (Solo)
The Lumineers
Taj Mahal
Shuggie Otis
Kitty Daisy & Lewis
Ben Howard
Tav Falco & The Panther Burns

If only there was a magenta^2 colour to use when talking about The Cat Empire.

Magenta just doesn't go far enough.

Nothing boils my blood more than the way the lead singer sings "hello", just so god damn annoying.

One of my biggest mindfuck moments of late was finding out that Counting Crows and The National share a fanbase, and have done co-headlining tours together.

(obviously I'm old enough to remember it actually being in the charts)
