The Superjesus have reformed and announced a “one-off” return show in their hometown of Adelaide to coincide with frontwoman Sarah McLeod’s 35th birthday.
The Jet Age line-up of the band – McLeod, Tim Henwood, Stuart Rudd, and Paul Berryman – will hit the stage at Adelaide’s The Governor Hindmarsh on February 1, 2013. According to an all caps post on McLeod’s Facebook wall “AT THE MOMENT ITS FOR A ONE OF SHOW IN ADELAIDE, THEN WHO KNOWS”. The group has also launched a new official Facebook page claiming that they have “ten years of pent up rock n roll energy to unleash!!!!!!!!”
As the film clip to McLeod’s solo cover of ‘Dancing in the Dark’ repeatedly pointed out, throughout their 10-year career Superjesus won a collection of ARIA awards for their three albums – 1998’s Sumo, 2000’s Jet Age and their 2003 swansong Rock Music.
The band went on hiatus in 2004 following their split with Warner Music. Since the split McLeod has released a solo album (2005’s Beauty Was a Tiger), tried to launch a career in dance music and formed the band Screaming Bikini who released their debut album last year. Guitarist Tim Henwood has played with Rogue Traders and The Androids, while Paul Berryman was a member of Faker from 2003-08.
