M.I.A one-off headline show
Fri 23rd Nov, 2012 in Local News
M.I.A will perform a one-off headline show at The Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Friday, January 4.
Her last visit was for the 2011 edition of Big Day Out when she received mixed reviews from FL’s reviewers who described her shows as “a rousing non-stop action performance” and “a blaze of annoying noise and flashing lights”.
MIA’s fourth studio album, Matangi, has been scheduled for release this Summer, and is expected to come accompanied by a documentary, an art exhibition and an autobiographical book. In August she released details of the record on Twitter telling fans that it will sound like “Paul Simon on acid … Could be 5 [songs, and] could be 15 … Depends on what sounds good in my bros CAR.” She has also announced that the album won’t feature any collaborations and only producers “that don’t act like fame whore colonisers”.
Punters in Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and the Gold Coast can catch M.I.A. on tour for the Summadayze/Summafieldayze festivals playing on a lineup that also includes DJ sets from Chemical Brothers and Mark Ronson, plus live performances from Hot Chip and SBTRKT, plus Kimbra, Hudson Mohawke and Maya Jane Coles.
