“The greatest announcementin the history of Bluesfest”due on Monday

“Possibly the greatest announcement in the history of Bluesfest” will be unveiled next Monday, October 29.

Bluesfest promoter Peter Noble set off a wave of speculation when he declared last week that the third announcement for the 2013 festival would feature a historic lineup addition, with fans (including FLHQ) pondering who the massive booking could be – Bruce Springsteen? Neil Young? Robert Plant? Tom Petty? Paul McCartney? Sadly Blusfest has confirmed via a post in the festival’s forum that the big announcement won’t be Tom Waits as he “doesn’t play festivals”.

Considering that recent Bluesfest lineups have boasted the likes of Bob Dylan, BB King, Grace Jones, George Clinton and Elvis Costello (2011), and The Pogues, Buddy Guy, John Fogerty, The Specials and My Morning Jacket (2012) the “greatest announcement in the history of Bluesfest” promises to be something very special indeed. The lineup for Bluesfest 2013 already includes Iggy and The Stooges, Wilco, Ben Harper, Santana, Steve Miller Band, and Jimmy Cliff.

According to posts on the Bluesfest forum there could be several hints (blues clues?) in a handful of teasers the festival has posted on its Facebook hyping the announcement. “OH yeah …. all right” is a fairly generic lyric, but it also happens to be part of the chorus of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ‘American Girl’, a song also covered by Pearl Jam, Gaslight Anthem, Def Leppard and Taylor Swift. “WHO could it be now” could suggest a visit from Men at Work or at least Colin Hay, but that would hardly count as “the greatest announcement in the history of Bluesfest”. And of course the mention of ‘WHO’ in all-caps raises hopes that the festival has booked the return of Who frontman Roger Daltrey, who cancelled his scheduled Bluesfest tour earlier this year citing “unforeseen scheduling conflicts”.

If it's Tom Petty I will lose it.

anything less than a Daisy Lowe and Alison Brie making-out-set will be a disappointment after all this hype.

Tom Petty probably wouldn't warrant the hype but he's probably the most exciting potential prospect from my perspective.

With that level of talking up a headliner it better be a good one. Realistically it could be Neil Young & Crazy Horse (please!) or extreme long shots would be The Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin but I just can't see those two happening.

It's got to be Hendrix, I reckon he faked his death 32 years ago and has been waiting for "the new Woodstock" to make his return. Bluesfest is clearly the festival he's been waiting for.
