Golden Plains 2013 lineuprevealed

Golden Plains has always been about discovering stuff, be it apricot sunsets, like-minded travellers or sweet tunes. And 2013 will prove no different with Aunty Meredith unveiling a weekend of uncharted musical adventures on the festival’s Lucky Seven lineup.

Joining Cat Power and George Clinton come March will be GP alumni Dinosaur Jr, Swedish troubadour Tallest Man on Earth and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. They will be facing some stiff boot competition by way of lesser known legends like Greek instrumentalist Psarantonis, who is to the Cretan lyra what Warren Ellis is the violin (fittingly Jim White will accompany him on drums); the father of Etho-Jazz and master of the vibraphone Mulatu Astatke; and Scottish DJ/disco dancer Keb Darge.

Filling out the future legends contingent at Golden Plains 2013 will be Canada’s Purity Ring, New Zealand’s Opossum, Flume, chillwave pioneer Toro Y Moi and local “supergroup” Bushwalking (Songs/Kes Band/Fabulous Diamonds).

So much boot raising potential.

Aunty Meredith is proud to announce that Golden Plains Lucky Seven will be the same price as this year’s event and that it’s still BYO, free from commercial sponsors and dickheads, and still on just one stage so you miss a moment of the musical action.

First round Ballot winners have been notified this morning and the second round is now open at the Golden Plains website..

Groin-grabbingly awesome lineup.

Nice to see Wild Nothing on there as well. I was hoping for a tour from them soon and thought they were going to play Laneway but I guess I know why they weren't put on that now.

Probably won't be able to attend but I'm looking forward to the sideshows.

Ouch, just got my volunteer shifts, Saturday - 10pm-2am and Sunday 2pm-6pm

- Sounds like I might miss Dinosaur Jr, and potentially Purity Ring, but will definitely catch Toro Y Moi. Can anyone else help me deduce things I'll potentially miss? Moodymann/Julio Bashmore will both play on the Sunday won't they?

RocknrollHendo

RocknrollHendo said on the 13th Feb, 2013

mine

Helper Hut Helpers - Saturday from 6.15pm to 10.15pm, and

Eric's Greeters - Sunday from 5pm to 9pm

GrimFandango

GrimFandango said on the 13th Feb, 2013

Dinosaur Junior played a similar last time they played GP.
Would you expect Toro Y Moi and Purity Ring after 10pm?
You've both got reasonable shifts.

Nothing could top that.

Melbourne jangle bands are the best thing for morning slots at Meredith. Boomgates' Sunday show last year was my favourite of the weekend by a mile

RocknrollHendo

RocknrollHendo said on the 15th Mar, 2013

I need to see Boomgates live....a Boomgates/Dick Diver/Twerps line-up would be amazing. I'll guess I'll see you at the Tote next month? Loving Calender Days been jamming it all afternoon.

Any other similar bands to these you could recommend?

RAMONESelaar

RAMONESelaar said on the 15th Mar, 2013

I need to get a ticket, but yep I'll definitely be there. They're playing a show this arvo at Polyester too!

Give Scott & Charlene's Wedding, Bitch Prefect, The Uv Race and Lower Plenty a go.

S&C's are back in the country at the moment - playing shows tonight and another on I think the 5th of April.
Bitch Prefect are the masters of the deliberately shitty garage aesthetic - absolutely none of them can sing in the slightest.
Al, the DD bassist, plays guitar in the Uv Race; they're kind of a Stooges Funhouse-y garage-punk band.
Al also plays in Lower Plenty, they're a way more moody DD.

Also have a listen to Peak Twins; they did a split with Scott & Charlene's and their guitarist is one of the Bitch Prefect singer/guitarists.

RocknrollHendo

RocknrollHendo said on the 15th Mar, 2013

Yea saw that can't make today but will definitely be at the Tote, getting me tix tomorrow.

Thanks for the recommendations bro, I shall check them all out tomorrow. Off for a well needed drink now it's been a long week looking forward to a relaxed weekend after the epic one we had last weekend.
