The Amp 2005: Closing Date andCriteria Alterations
Fri 28th Oct, 2005 in Local News
The inaugural Australian Music Prize otherwise known as The Amp 2005 has gained a lot of attention over the last month or so since it was launched with over 450 entrants so far downloading the entry form. The enticing $25,000 prize has certainly stirred the imaginations and dreams of the Australian music community.
The Patron Steering Committee for the prize are keen to convey a change to the widening of the entry criteria and bringing forward the closing date for entries due to an oversight.
Scott Murphy, Prize Director of The Australian Music Prize today said, “We’ve made a pretty obvious mistake which we all, particularly me, simply didn’t notice – until I started to receive queries from musicians stating that their ‘albums’ were under 40 minutes…. yet by all other criteria, still albums. After quick email and phone communications over the past week we’ve made the unanimous decision to lower the minimum required minutes of music. We’ll make every effort possible to ensure all musicians know of this change.”
The new minimum required minutes of music for entry is 33 and a 1/3rd (33 minutes, 20 seconds). The new closing date for entries to The Amp 2005 will be 5.00pm Friday December 23, 2005. In early February, the shortlist will be announced and the winner will be announced, in Sydney on March 8th, 2006.
