Gin Blossoms debut Australiantour

2012 has been the year of the ‘90s nostalgia tours from Aqua, Vengaboys, Crazy Town, Limp Bizkit, Coal Chamber, Def FX, and Hanson and now the Gin Blossoms have signed up for their first ever Australian tour. They’ll be touring in summer 2013 playing mid-90s hits like ‘Hey Jealousy’, ‘Found Out About You’, and ‘Til I Hear It From You’ from the Empire Records movie soundtrack in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth.
When FL spoke to Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jnr, Sebadoh) last year he told us that he doesn’t really have any guilty pleasures – “I listen to pop music, love hipsters, follow trends and hate the concept of credibility”. However, when pushed, he nominated the Gin Blossoms’ New Miserable Experience as his ‘guilty pleasure’ as it “furrows the brow of anyone I mention it to”. Barlow explained that singer Robin Wilson has a beautiful voice and that ‘Found Out About About You’ is “one of the great American pop songs, up there with Big Star’s ‘September Gurls’ or the Left Banke’s ‘Walk Away Renee’”.
After a hiatus that lasted from 1997 until 2002 the Gin Blossoms regrouped and have since released two albums − 2006’s Major Lodge Victory and 2010’s No Chocolate Cake. The band recently appeared on Summerland nostalgia tour with Everclear, Sugar Ray, LIT and Marcy Playground. (We can only assume thay Harvey Danger didn’t return the promoter’s phone calls.) Everclear’s lead singer Art Alexakis recently told FL that he would love to bring Summerland to Australia, but for now we’ll have to make do with this run of headline gigs.
