Blur planning an Australiantour in 2013

Blur is planning a relatively extensive world tour next year, including Europe, Japan, South America and Australia.”

So says Ian Huffam, a representative for the booking agency X-Ray Touring, quoted by concert tour industry trade magazine Pollstar.

Blur have already announced shows at the Primavera Sound (Barcelona, May 24), Oporto (Portugal, May 31) and Rock Werchter (Belgium, July 4-7). The band announced the Primavera and Oporto dates on their Facebook page on Monday and hinted that other shows will soon be announced: “More as we know it…”

Pollstar suggests that Blur’s European dates will “likely run through to mid summer”, which would suggest that an Australian visit would be likely in the second half of next year. With Japan and Australia on the schedule a visit to either Fuji Rock or Summer Sonic and Splendour in the Grass appears to be reasonable prediction.

FL spoke to Damon Albarn when he toured Australia in December 2010 with Gorillaz, but he avoided any talk of a Blur tour. The last visit with Blur was way back in 1997 when they were touring their self titled album. The band released two albums after that – 1999’s 13 and 2003’s Think Tank.

This year has been an unusually busy one for the band with the release of two new songs, a huge retrospective box-set, and a concert in Hyde Park with New Order and The Specials as part of the Olympic celebrations.

Bassist Alex James says the the two new tracks were written specifically for the Hyde Park gig and show completely different sides of Blur: “‘The Puritan’ is a big, up and at em’, bouncy, sing-a-long special and ‘Under The Westway’ is more of a hymn, but I think they’ll go down really well.”

Why would not playing stadiums preclude them from playing Acer Arena or the Entertainment Centre?

Mental retardation (MR) is a generalized disorder appearing before adulthood, characterized by significantly impaired cognitive functioning and deficits in two or more adaptive behaviors. It has historically been defined as an Intelligence Quotient score under 70.

Braveheart81

As well as IQ, mental retardation can also be measured by the number of SOAD, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit albums owned. Both are accepted by the medical profession.

Pulp only sold 4200 tickets to their Hordern show so far from a sell out. also the Gorillaz show at the Syd Ent Cent sold very very poorly. a lot of the tickets went after they started a "2 for the price of 1" offer.

nevertheless i can see Blur quite comfortably selling 7000-8000 tickets in sydney at a reasonable price.

The closest they get to us is Jakarta on 15th May but if they haven't announced anything by now then I don't think they will come around then especially since they have to be back in Spain on th 24th. Splendour looks to be out of the question as they are in Italy the last weekend of July. If Splendour announce first weekend of August dates (could be possible looking at that Alt-J announcement) then they could fit a Splendour only show but that is a bit of a stretch as they need to be back in Norway on the 7th August.

Towards the end of the year is looking more likely, so yeah that brings Harvest in to play. Basically I don't care when they come just as long as they fucking come.

Blur are headlining Coachella, Primavera, etc, their fees must be well into seven figures.
