Boy and Bear down one boy

Boy and Bear are currently working on the follow-up to 2011’s Moonfire, but they’ll be doing it without bass player Jake Tarasenko who has decided to leave to “pursue other interests”.

Just what these “other interests” are is unclear at this stage, but it’s fairly safe to assume we’ll be hearing from him again. The bassist guested on the recent debut album from fellow Boy and Bear member Tim Hart and has also been featured as a member of Laura Marling’s touring band in Australia.

Boy and Bear started as a solo project for Dave Hosking in early 2009, but he was soon joined by Tarasenko, Killian Gavin, and Tim and Jon Hart. As part of the Boy and Bear lineup, Tarasenko won the 2012 APRA award for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year, and won four ARIAS in 2011 when the band’s debut album, Moonfire, picked up awards for Album of the Year, Best Group, Breakthrough Artist and Best Adult Alternative Release.

The band has plenty of time to find a new bass player before they return to the stage with appearances at the Falls and Sountbound festivals over New Year’s.

Statement from Boy and Bear:

Just wanted to let you all know that our good friend & bass player, Jake Tarasenko has decided to leave the band to pursue other interests.

We will miss Jake and wish him all the best for the future. We are currently writing our next album and can’t wait to get back out there in 2013 to play you all some new tunes.

Much love,
Boy & Bear
