After making a brief visit to Australia in July to play just one set with At The Drive In at Splendour in July, Omar Rodriguez Lopez will return to Australia with his band to play headline shows across Australia in November as well as co-headlining the “mouth watering” lineup of Cherryfest in Melbourne.
Omar also made the trek out here late last year for a run of shows with Le Butcherettes. According to the FL reviewer who caught the show in Melbourne last December “Rodriguez-Lopez’s staggering output over the past few years hinted more towards vanity than quality … however this gig clarified that his solo material is more than just second- or third-rate Mars Volta but something that has assumed a sound and presence of its own.”

Omar Souleyman began his career in Syria recording his style of traditional Arab dance music onto cassettes which were then only available to the married couple whose weddings he would perform at. The tapes attracted a cult following and soon enough he was touring the world, with the likes of Ratatat, Hot Chip, Passion Pit and collaborating with Bjork.
Omar and his nimble fingered keyboardist Razid Sa’id return to Australia with their frenetic street-crazed Syrian dabkein, red keffiyehs and aviator shades in December to play at the Meredith Music Festival and a sideshow at the Hi-Fi in Melbourne.
Omar Souleyman sideshow:
Wednesday, December 5 – Hi-Fi, Melbourne
Thursday, December 6 – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
