Maximo Park announce headlineshows

Maximo Park have announced two sideshows ahead of their appearances at Falls and Southbound over New Year’s. The UK outfit, last here in 2009, will play The Corner Hotel in Melbourne on January 2 and The Hi-Fi in Sydney on January 3.
Maximo Park’s recently released fourth album The National Health was recorded with legendary producer Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Violent Soho). It was described by FL as a “rousing album. Ferocious and frank, it navigates through the foibles of society and the individual, proving there’s still some venom left in singer Paul Smith’s snarl.”
Frontman Paul Smith said it was inspired by the GFC. “We’re in a global recession and everyone is being bombarded with bouncy, happy music,” he said. “The nation is out of control and the record is about taking back control, and being a force for change in your own life. It can’t speak for everybody but it has its eyes and ears all around us.”
Support for both shows from Sydney’s Glass Towers, who started life as a solo project for frontman Ben Hannam, but have since swelled to a four-piece with the addition of guitarist Sam Speck, bassist Cameron Holdstock and drummer Daniel Muszynski. Their debut 2011 EP was recorded by ARIA-winning producer Wayne Connolly (You Am I, Josh Pyke).
Tickets on sale now through Handsome Tours.
