Cat Power on 2013 Australiantour: "I just confirmed it"
Mon 3rd Sep, 2012 in Local News
Cat Power (aka Atlanta songwriter Chan Marshall) has locked in an Australian tour for early next year, telling triple j kingpin Richard Kingsmill: “I just confirmed it .. The last Australian date is February 9, that’s all I know.”
The timing of the dates strongly suggests that Cat Power will be among the headlining acts at the 2013 St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, coming just hours after the festival announced on Twitter that “once again the ladies take centre stage at Laneway”. This year’s Laneway featured the likes of Laura Marling, Feist, Anna Calvi, Austra, EMA, and Cults.

#Laneway 2013 clue…. Once again the ladies take centre stage at Laneway
In a soon-to-be-published review of Cat Power’s new album, Sun, FL contributor Doug Wallen writes that Chan Marshall “loads the record with unabashed pop hooks and a buzzing, agitated momentum, as if she can’t risk losing the steam she’s built up. The songs almost fall over each other as she tries to get each new one out, making for a cathartic album that’s anything but tough to get through. This is a celebration, after all. A Cat Power party record.” Read the full review tomorrow on FL.
Laneway Festival is set to make the first “media announcement” for the 2013 festival on Friday; other acts rumoured for the lineup include Japandroids, Divine Fits, Yeasayer and Mount Eerie.
