Another likely act for Lanewayfestival?

Twitter master Phil Elverum is bringing Mount Eerie to Australia early next year. According to his website, the tour will occur in “Jan./Feb. 2013” and feature shows in Australia and New Zealand – just in time for Laneway festival perhaps? Or for Sugar Mountain and Sydney Festival sets?

Elverum previously recorded as The Microphones, but he has used the Mount Eerie name since 2003 on five albums featuring hypnotic waves of synthesizers, creaky acoustic guitars, feedback and understated laconic vocals. Following up on 2009’s Wind’s Poem album, Elverum has recorded two new albums for release this year. Clear Moon was released in May while the second record Ocean Roar, which he describes as “more challenging and weird and darker and heavier”, is due for release later this year.

Mount Eerie played at the Jeff Mangum curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in the UK earlier this year alongside The Magnetic Fields, Joanna Newsom, Sebadoh, Thurston Moore and The Fall but hasn’t been seen in Australia since October 2008 when the band was booked for Sound Summit and the (sadly cancelled) Great Escape festival.

Other acts likely to be touring for the indie inclined punter in January/February (and likely to appear at Laneway) include Spoon/Wolf Parade ‘supergroup’ Divine Fits, Yeasayer, and Japandroids.

The lineups for Laneway, Sugar Mountain and the Sydney Festival will be announced in the coming months.

I've never seen that many dates for someone playing in NZ ever. Not even a NZ band would want to play that much in NZ.
