Primal Scream announceMeredith sideshows
Wed 29th Aug, 2012 in Local News
Already tasked with ensuring that Meredith Music Festival is fully loaded come December Primal Scream have confirmed they will play five additional sideshows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Last here in 2011 reminding fans why Screamadelica is still considered a modern classic, Primal are set to show off their extensive back-catalogue and a handful of new songs when they return to Australia at year’s end. Speaking to the Irish Times recently Bobby Gillespie confirmed that record number 10 is almost complete but that the band is done looking back: “No, it doesn’t sound anything like Screamadelica. It has to be relevant to now. I’ve got something to say and we’re going to fucking say it.”
With Mani busy with the Stone Roses reunion (and imminent break-up) My Bloody Valentine’s Debbie Googe has picked up bass duties for the tour, which kicks off only two months before her own band with make their triumphant Australian debut at All Tomorrow’s Parties.
Reporting back from their show at Sellina’s in Sydney on their last tour Down Under, FL said: “The sound is crisp and clear, the performance is sharp, and the band are feeding off the crowd’s frenzy. And on-stage the songs are sent into overdrive by loud guitars and bass, hinting ever so slightly at the penchant for claustrophobic noise that fuelled later albums like XTRMNTR. It works perfectly, maintaining the integrity of the original while gently pushing it towards a more intense sound that makes the album’s peaks sound absolutely colossal.”
