Indie 'supergroup' confirmJanuary tour – Laneway2013?

An indie “supergroup” featuring members of Spoon, Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs and New Bomb Turks have all but confirmed an Australian tour in January, strongly suggesting an appearance at Laneway Festival.

Speaking to FL yesterday, Wolf Parade/Handsome Furs leader Dan Boeckner revealed that Divine Fits, who just released their debut album A Thing Called Divine Fits, would indeed be heading our way very soon. “We will be coming to Australia in January,” he told FL. “Unlike Wolf Parade we won’t be cancelling it.” (Wolf Parade broke up before they could fulfill a promise to tour Australian in 2011.)

Featuring Boeckner, Spoon’s Britt Daniel, New Bomb Turks drummer Sam Brown and keyboardist Alex Fischel, Divine Fits’ new album was recorded with producer Nick Launay (Grinderman, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Supergrass). Considering the album features a cover of the Boys Next Door’s classic ‘Shivers’, an Australian tour was always a solid bet.

Other acts strongly rumoured for Laneway include Yeasayer (“Our plan is to be there in January”) and Japandroids (“From what I understand we’re coming in February”).

Laneway festival announced last month that they’ve “been busy working on what we think might just be the most amazing line-up we’ve ever pulled together… The line-up is frighteningly good and like all good things, the wait will be well worth it”.

The lineup for this year’s Laneway festival wasn’t announced until October last year, but with the bills for other summer festivals such as Falls and Big Day Out already released, we could see an early announce.

Hot Dayum. Dan Boeckner has the sexiest live vocals I've ever witnessed.

Uh apart from Britt Daniel

I thought Laneway was also early February? January tour might hint at something ealier.

Brissy was on the 28th of Jan this year, and they would probably fly in a couple of days before that the first show.

I've seen Britt 3 times now, and I think Dan is one of a very select few that would be better. Together though....fuck.

can't rule out Sydney Festival either. of course Beach House and others have shown that you can do both easily.

Burgaa, please share with us the rules of forming a supergroup, we are but simple naive fools.

A supergroup by definition is a band composed of members who have gained fame from either being in other bands or performing individually.

So yes, Divine Fits is a supergroup.

Most people, particularly those on this forum wouldn't call Spoon or Wolf Parade average bands. Handsome Furs is also pretty well liked.

Burgaa comes from the X-Factor school of supergroup. Any five prepubescent boys/girls who can hold a tune and stand in a line = supergroup.

Guys burgaa has a point. For example, The Avengers are a supergroup because they are made up of people who were already successfully established crime fighters. That's not to suggest that burgaa actually believes that supergroups need to wear capes and be super heroes. burgaa... you don't believe that... right...?
