Soundwave 2013 third lineupdetails

The third round of the Soundwave 2013 lineup announcement will feature “1 or two sizeable bands” adding to the massive bill that already boasts Metallica, Slayer, Paramore, Garbage and Blink-182. These final additions will be revealed some time in September or early October.

Prior to revealing the second lineup last week, festival boss AJ Maddah had said there wouldn’t be a third release but he has been forced to schedule another announcement as two of the metal bands had to be pulled off the announcement “til further notice… Til they sort some things out…” and because “The Vandals haven’t confirmed yet”. (With Paramore and A Perfect Circle already on the bill the addition of The Vandals would make it a very busy tour for drummer-for-hire Josh Freese.

While it appears that there will be more metal on the third lineup don’t get your hopes up for any glam rock or ska, although Maddah has noted that there are “a buttload of ska tours coming up” including a visit from Reel Big Fish before the end of the year.

Although the presence of Metallica and Anthrax on the lineup has led to speculation that Slayer and Megadeth could join the lineup to complete the Big Four Maddah has declared that “this is not a big 4 gig.”
So it’s likely that the third lineup announcements could see The Vandals and at least two more metal acts added plus a few more local acts to join Confession and The Amity Affliction on the lineup. Maddah has already announced that Sydney metal crew Northlane will play on “a couple of the dates”.

The Baroness thing was read nowhere particularly reliable.

Josh didn't play on the recent APC shows in the US, and Maynard has been tweeting his replacement Jeff Friedl when talking about the APC shows. And Wikipedia quote Ilyn Ruben as Paramore's drummer these days.

Scalping tickets before the festival sells out...

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7733/screenshot20120820at224.png

That is just ticket price plus stupid tax.

Stupid tax is normally much more. Stupid people will jump on these quickly.

yeah, i know. i already have access to tickets, it's just whether i choose to acquire them or not. and i can go to any of them, and it's usually only melbourne that sells out really quickly, so if something crazy happened (like the ones being reserved for me disappeared magically) i'd just go to a different one.

Third lineups for one day festivals don't usually have bands that are big drawvcards to most people. Not saying that you won't find a band to tip you over the edge but the chances are smaller.

yeah, i know. i might be a noob to this forum, but not to festivals in general. i've been to a couple of s.w's already also, so i know the way they work. i don't care if it's not a big name announced, i just want one little thing...just one little thing....

you know, like when you have 2 indian restaurants, both make amazing curries, but to make the choice which one to have tea at, it comes down to the one with the slightly better naan bread... ;)

Not really sure ATD-I will back any time soon. From Drowned In Sound:

“We consider this the last show of the Relationship of Command tour,” [Jim Ward] says. A few lumps form in a few throats. “It’s taken us 12 years to get here, but…” He tails off.

Obviously it's nothing concrete, but I'd be surprised if they continue past this tour. Jim Ward's already promised more Sparta stuff and Mars Volta never really properly toured their latest album.

tokirules

no they wouldn't be between blink and metallica. they'd headline. the only band i have a glimmer of hope for out of any of them are deftones although having cypress hill, apc, tool and deftones in the same festival would be a stoner dream

RAMONESelaar

RAMONESelaar said on the 4th Sep, 2012

Well there's no onstage interaction between Omar and Jim, at all. From most accounts, Omar hasn't really come across as interested in the whole thing at all - he certainly didn't look it at Splendour or from what I saw during the Coachella stream.

I think this tour really was just a victory lap and nothing more.

tyler07

tyler07 said on the 4th Sep, 2012

See I would've agreed but I watched the Channel V Splendour interviews, and Omar spoke quite positively about their reformation and seemed at least well interested in it.

So now I just don't know what to think, except I want more ATD-I live.

That's interesting. His stage presence tells an entirely different story. That said, I haven't seen him live before, so I don't know what he's "normally" like.

tyler07

Stugalug

Stugalug said on the 4th Sep, 2012

From memory, when I saw them on the BDO tour. Omar kept reasonable still and focused on his pedals, i think he's just a quiet player. Most of your attention was directed to Cedric donkey kicking like a champion and Jim screaming at the crowd to stop crowd surfing/moshing.

RAMONESelaar

RAMONESelaar said on the 4th Sep, 2012

I'll never understand how he manages to completely ignore a frontman as energetic as Cedric. None of those vibes rub off on Omar at all, it's ridiculous.

tokirules

tokirules said on the 4th Sep, 2012

Stugalug

Stugalug said on the 4th Sep, 2012

I don't think anything has happened to him, I think he's just always played like that. He's trapped in his own personally blizzard. When you really examine other bands live performances, there would be plenty more 'quiet players' out there. He's such a demon, people expect the worId I guess. I would prefer a quiet genius over a flashy middle of the road guitarist any day.

tyler07

They definitely had an interesting stage dynamic at Splendour. I think they're all pretty happy to just be a tight unit while Cedric prances about being awesome.
