If you can’t afford Soundwave or it just feels too far away don’t worry there are plenty of punk, hardcore and metal bands from the States heading our way very soon including a pair of acts who were out here last year for the Soundwave Counter-Revolution shows – Swellers and Make Do And Mend.
“Underground thrash-sludge messiahs” High on Fire return to tour their new album De Vermis Mysteriis in September. When we last saw them, for Soundwave 2011, FL’s reviewer reported that “With the perpetually shirtless Matt Pike firing off scattered guitar solos and barking out bad-ass tales of warriors and mythology, it’s an hour of power from the fellow California locals. Driven along by the tribal war drumming of Des Kensel and Jeff Matz’ dirty and extremely vital bass work, the three-piece push out a racket of biblical proportions.”
High on Fire tour:
Friday 28 September – Gershwin Room, Melbourne
Saturday 29 September – Manning Bar, Sydney
Sunday 30 September – The Zoo, Brisbane
Tickets on sale Friday 24 August
The first band ever signed to Fat Wreck Chords, Lagwagon, were pioneers in creating the now-famous ‘Fat Wreck sound’ with their speedy drums, guitar virtuosity and undeniable melodies. Despite not releasing an album since 2005’s Resolve the band has a back catalogue of 141 songs and will be heading back to Australia for another tour in November with support from The Smith Street Band.
