Tours in Brief: High on Fire,Lagwagon, Swellers, ToucheAmore, Between The Buried AndMe

If you can’t afford Soundwave or it just feels too far away don’t worry there are plenty of punk, hardcore and metal bands from the States heading our way very soon including a pair of acts who were out here last year for the Soundwave Counter-Revolution shows – Swellers and Make Do And Mend.

“Underground thrash-sludge messiahs” High on Fire return to tour their new album De Vermis Mysteriis in September. When we last saw them, for Soundwave 2011, FL’s reviewer reported that “With the perpetually shirtless Matt Pike firing off scattered guitar solos and barking out bad-ass tales of warriors and mythology, it’s an hour of power from the fellow California locals. Driven along by the tribal war drumming of Des Kensel and Jeff Matz’ dirty and extremely vital bass work, the three-piece push out a racket of biblical proportions.”

High on Fire tour:

Friday 28 September – Gershwin Room, Melbourne
Saturday 29 September – Manning Bar, Sydney
Sunday 30 September – The Zoo, Brisbane

Tickets on sale Friday 24 August

The first band ever signed to Fat Wreck Chords, Lagwagon, were pioneers in creating the now-famous ‘Fat Wreck sound’ with their speedy drums, guitar virtuosity and undeniable melodies. They’ve influenced hundreds of thousands of kids, been around the world more times than Ferdinand Magellan and twisted and redefined themselves over the course of a career that spans almost twenty-five years.

Despite not releasing an album since 2005’s Resolve the band has a back catalogue of 141 songs and will be heading back to Australia for another tour in November with support from The Smith Street Band.

Lagwagon, The Smith Street Band tour:

Wednesday 28th November – HiFi, Brisbane

Animals as Leaders are fucking rad.

Dad isn't punk enough for Lagwagon. I'll almost definitely be there.

Also doing Sydney and Canberra weekender for Touche, and will probably catch the Wollongong Swellers show.

Might attend the Lagwagon Brisbane show, just for SSB.

I missed High on Fire last time around, and saw Russian Circles last year.
Even with Eagle Twin thrown in, I'll be at the Espy.

I'm never going to get to see Totally Unicorn.

brittles said on the 17th Aug, 2012

Cool story bro.

Still didn't mention it in the original post.

MorningAfterboy said on the 17th Aug, 2012

Get on the internet and complain.

MorningAfterboy said on the 17th Aug, 2012

She's upset that the tour she's promoting isn't in a tours in brief article. Surely there's bigger things to worry about.

Napoleon Solo

Napoleon Solo said on the 17th Aug, 2012

I didn't pick up the upset vibe. Pretty sure she was just responding to the article grab.

Give FL alum some slack.

brittles said on the 17th Aug, 2012

If there is anything I'm upset about it's that after all this time there is still sand in your vagina.

brittles said on the 17th Aug, 2012

Am I being trolled by MAB? Is that really what's happening here?

MorningAfterboy said on the 17th Aug, 2012

Do you know what trolling is?

MorningAfterboy said on the 17th Aug, 2012

Insanely rich coming from you.

Demosthenes said on the 17th Aug, 2012

In regards to The Swellers tour:
That would be huge for Milhouse if it happens.

MorningAfterboy said on the 21st Aug, 2012

My friends in Up and Atom are trying for a slot, too. Love that they're investing so much into their supports for this tour.
