One Great Night On Earth:“this project is still verymuch on track”

One Great Night On Earth festival has declared that it “is still very much on track” to run on the 1st of December.

When FL spoke to Lyndel Moore, the project director at OGNOE, way back in April she assured us that the event, which is being organised to raise funds for victims of natural disasters in Australia, will feature a “gob-smacking” twelve hour lineup of classic rock before an expected audience of between 80,000 and 100,000 punters.

In June the festival posted a series of updates on their Facebook page, but since then the festival has been surprisingly quiet and no details of the lineup have been revealed despite the fact that several festivals scheduled after One Great Night on Earth – including Soundwave, Big Day Out, Meredith, ATP and Falls – have all released their lineups.

Now the OGNOE team has taken a break from posting Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and David Bowie video clips on Facebook to answer the concerns of worried punters explaining that “this project is still very much on track and if you can be patient a little longer, I am sure you will be pleased with the outcome.”

“When heavy hitting performers ask us to wait and then announce to market with a BANG, that’s exactly what we will do. It’s not just one BIG HITTER we’re signing, it’s a 12 hour format that’s CHOCKERS with great acts… [we] will be sure to send a warning pre the big stuff. A sit down will be required we feel.”

Hopefully that announcement isn’t too far off: the festival is scheduled to run in just over 15 weeks time.

Statements from One Great Night On Earth posted on Facebook:

“We are NOT a Big Day Out, nor are we are Soundwave. One Great Night on Earth is a philanthropically based event to raise funds for those affected by natural disaster. We won’t be releasing information as they do, nor will we operate the way they do. The line-up and festival will be skewed toward those who not only dig their tunes though have a firm intent to make great humanitarian change. Yes, this project is still very much on track and if you can be patient a little longer, I am sure you will be pleased with the outcome.”

“We engaged a booking agent out of the UK at the start of the year. He is one of the best in the business though you don’t get to engage the skills of someone with his merit without signing an agreement that binds us to announce when they are ready. Our greatest revenue stream (ticket sales) goes back to a charity to support our fellow man and it is with this in mind that our artists are signing up to perform. When heavy hitting performers ask us to wait and then announce to market with a BANG, that’s exactly what we will do. It’s not just one BIG HITTER we’re signing, it’s a 12 hour format that’s CHOCKERS with great acts. Though the waiting game may not please our fan base, we ask that you think about the difference their performance will make and the lives it will save and with that knowledge, we ask that you spread the good word. It’s a simple notion and the greater our fan base, the bigger the ultimate kick!!!!! That’s about the long and the short of it.”

“We are asked more about the lineup than any other topic and that’s absolutely fair. Imagine how hard it is knowing and not being able to tell your nearest and dearest. If I had a buck for every time someone close to me said ‘go on, just tell me….I won’t tell a soul’ then we wouldn’t be staging an event to raise money for a worthy cause. I guess that until we are able to spill our guts, it’s important for us to make it clear that the message behind this event is one of goodwill. Will be sure to send a warning pre the big stuff. A sit down will be required we feel. Thanks for your patience.”

hi people, especially you napoleon you rock my world...............

a quick quote from the ognoe fb, i must warn you that some on the context will be cringe worthy but i will let you be the decision makers...

one great night on earth we really appreciate your feedback matty and you make some very good points though we have been responding to like comments as often as possible and will do the same again here. by posting classic rock clips we are not looking to generate any kind of revenue stream. we do so simply to add to our audiences understanding of the ilk of artist we are into and propose. once again we are compared to many other festivals via your comments. all of those you cite are great examples of festival formats though, once again we wish to reiterate that we are not a big day out, a coachella or glasto. they are all music events, pure and simple and fine examples of festivals which have been operating for many years. we are putting the final touches to the inaugural event which will kick off a global fundraising campaign for those who have been so sorely affected by natural disaster. it's a big deal and in producing our year 1 event we wish to leave no stone unturned. the festivals of which you note are also heavily skewed toward a youth market and whilst we expect to attract a younger demographic, ours caters to a more mature audience via the artists we will feature and the goodwill intent. whilst you are an obvious skeptic and somewhat perturbed that we are not meeting your needs, give thought to our ultimate fund recipients who have waited as long a three years for assistance in moving forward with their lives having already lost so much. we should also mention that this is a benefit project. in the past, as disaster occurs, music events have been stagde in a reactive sense and line-ups only announced in the days preceding the big gig. people attended sound relief post the black saturday bushfires at the mcg and scg respectively and didn't know who would be playing until one week prior. have a heart buddy. this is not about delivering scoop just to appease an audience who are adept to being told so much in advance, it's about creating the finest result possible to create the way the world sees fundraising and a humanitarian movement to make great change. the ticket price for our event will be meager compared to most and it's that ticket price that hopes to change a life. consider this: not everyone demands to know whether they will have a boy or a girl when told they are expecting. some just wait for the big day and relish in the beautiful, healthy surprise. simple as that. thanks again for your feedback. we appreciate it.
