Wed 1st Aug, 2012 in Local News
Billy Bragg, ‘The Bard from Barking’, returns to Australia this October with a special new two part show: the first half celebrating the 100th anniversary of Woody Guthrie’s birth, and the second exploring Billy’s own extensive three decade, 14-album career.
In tribute to the iconic folk singer, Bragg will perform songs from Woody’s extensive repertoire as well material from the three volumes of ‘Mermaid Avenue’ albums which saw Bragg collaborate with Wilco to set a treasure trove of Guthrie’s unrecorded lyrics to music.
For the Melbourne Festival, he’ll perform two separate shows – the first dedicated to Woody Guthrie, and a second evening devoted to his own songs.
