Harvest 2012 second lineupannouncement coming next week

LOOKING FOR THE SECOND HARVEST LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT?

Harvest and Soundwave boss AJ Maddah has confirmed on Twitter that the second round announcement of acts for Harvest 2012 will be unveiled next week.

The lineup already boasts a very impressive collection of acts including Beck, Sigur Ros, Grizzly Bear, and Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane, but the second round of lineup additions last year saw the likes of TV On The Radio, Mogwai and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah added to the festival bill, so hopefully this year’s second lineup announcement will be equally impressive. Maddah has been unusually tight lipped on the second announcement simply announcing that the announcement “will be a mix of international and local… [with] an artist or 2 you may have heard of!”.

The recent announcements of lineups for Big Day Out, Falls and Meredith ruling out a stack of potential Harvest acts including Hot Chip, Grimes, Alabama Shakes, Sleigh Bells, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Foals, Band Of Horses, Animal Collective, Bombay Bicycle Club, Beach House, Best Coast, SBTRKT, The Vaccines, and First Aid Kit. And Maddah has already ruled out appearances from My Bloody Valentine, Gogol Bordello, and The Decemberists.

2004 Pitchfork darlings could be:

The Go! Team
Fiery Furnaces
another Devendra Banhart tour

and of course Arcade Fire, although everyone knows it won't be them.

There are some fine electronic artists playing Tokyo on Nov 23: Flying Lotus, Amon Tobin, Four Tet and Squarepusher.

Not sure if any of these would be suited to Harvest though; there were definitely more clues in the Japan dates last year.

The lineup may actually be announced by the time I post this, but I have several hours of catching up to do. Plus I think at this point in time I've liked 666 posts. That's not relevant, but I felt like pointing it out.

I'm thinking something like:

Wilco
SSPU
Dexy's
Cloud Nothings
Oberhofer
Snakadaktal
Chet Faker

I'm thinking some like:

Los Campesinos!
SSPU
Six bands I won't give a fuck about

I guessed "shit stirring" before I guessed "source". I agree with whoever (whomever, whatever) said it looked like soup.

Arcade Fire was the number 1 album on Pitchforks 2004 Top 50...

Triple J 90s, hmm?
Could be anyone* really,

* Mazzy Star

Hey, finding Arcade Fire where there's no Arcade Fire is my thing!

Triple J was good in the mid 90s.

...could be a good sign?

Yeah, but a 1990s band would be so out of place.

Even though I originally argued the lineup wasn't as 90s as other people said, I think taking into account a lot of the rumoured second announcement bands I'll have to definitely go back on that one.

Four Tet, Squarepusher, Flying Lotus, Jeff Mangum, Wilco, Cloud Nothings, Silversun Pickups and Arcade Fire would be an awesome second announcement.

Might as well add Spoon with Divine Fits in which case will swap both kidneys for a ticket

"Hey guys, you know that festival we're not doing sideshows for that's almost sold out? How about we put a band that everyone's been waiting years to see on the lineup? How about Arcade Fire?"
"Sure thing AJ, whatever you Say J"
"Ha, Say J? Puns are the greatest thing ever!"
"Is that technically a pun?"
"Go fuck yourself"

And I hope you die!

jacegalvin

yeah, but there are only around 15% of tickets left for sydney & melbourne, they will go within an hour. Perth, Adelaide & Brisbane have a few more tickets left to sell in GP but I will be surprised if they last longer than a day.

RAMONESelaar

Even accounting for that, that would only mean that Melbourne and maybe Sydney sold out in less than 24 hours.

Napoleon Solo

Napoleon Solo said on the 21st Aug, 2012

Yeah you might be right but I highly doubt they would consider adding another Melbourne leg till at least after the general sale. I should specify the general sale is Thursday, I have no effin idea where I am right now.

bjw1

bjw1 said on the 21st Aug, 2012

what I was trying to say is that AJ has flatly denied the addition of any extra soundwave dates despite how quickly it's sold/will sell out, compared to harvest which has had a second show added.

RAMONESelaar

RAMONESelaar said on the 21st Aug, 2012

There's four days between Sydney and Melbourne Soundwaves, whereas there's six between Melbourne and Sydney Harvests. Those four days will already be full of sideshows, but Harvest is limiting sideshows to mostly Perth and Adelaide.

Plus Harvest doesn't have Metallica headlining. Logistically and financially it'd just be way too difficult.

Pearl Jam got $1m per show last tour. Same as Kanye West and Soundgarden for BDO. So I'd imagine Metallica would be around there too.

Braveheart81

Braveheart81 said on the 21st Aug, 2012

Pearl Jam played stadiums on their own tour.

Metallica are headlining a festival with a similar capacity to most of those stadiums. That is why I thought it would be a bit less. Could easily be as high as a $1 million per show though.

BeShakey

BeShakey said on the 21st Aug, 2012

My understanding is that festivals tend to pay more than headline shows (thats for mid-lineup bands in Europe though, so may not apply here). Metallica toured recently which might drop their price, but they sold out shows at stadiums, whereas Kanye/Soundgarden got $1m but couldn't sell out stadium shows if they'd done them.
