All Tomorrow's Parties comingback to Mt Buller in 2013?

All Tomorrow’s Parties will make its long-awaited return to Victoria’s Mt Buller in February, according to Mess+Noise.

The rumour follows comments by Australian rock icon Spencer P Jones at a gig at Yah Yahs in Melbourne on Sunday night. Jones reportedly claimed that the “original” line-up of The Beasts of Bourbon – Jones, Tex Perkins, Kim Salmon, James Baker and Boris Sujdovic – would reform for the festival, along with acts including Low, The Drones and The Jesus Lizard. As M+N points out My Bloody Valentine are touring Japan in early February…

The story claims that the comments have been corroborated by “several sources” and that a representative from Mt Buller would not confirm or deny the rumour, but suggested keeping any eye on gig guides for any potential “good news”.

Rumours of All Tomorrow’s Parties’ long-awaited Australian return began circling in April following a Triple R interview with founders Barry Hogan and Deborah Higgins. Speaking to presenter Rose Callaghan, the pair said a return was “never off the table”, but would only happen if the demand was there. “We’re always thinking about how it’s going to return,” said Higgins. “It’s never off the table, but we really need to make sure that we would get the numbers, before we embarked on it again.”

ATP recently underwent a company restructure, which Hogan said would ensure the event would be around for “many more years to come”. Writing on the ATP website, he said they were working on several “exciting developments and opportunities”, which would be unveiled over the coming months.

The festival has only been held once in Australia – at Buller, Sydney’s Cockatoo Island and Brisbane’s Riverstage – in 2009. Curated by Nick Cave, it featured performances by The Saints, The Dirty Three, Spiritualized, and the late Rowland S Howard.

The last ATP was awesome for old forgotten bands, Primitive Calculators were fantastic, my highlight. I'm hoping for something like Spy v. Spy (or v.Spy v.Spy if you like) this time around.
